Mercedes Sosa Theatre- Ex Plaza Cinema

Alberto Prebisch designed this building and it was open in 1946 on San Martín Street, just in front of the Independence Square. During 46 years, it was an aristocrat place for movie premiers.

It closed in 1992. However, it was reopened for a Church until 2011. In that moment, the government of Tucumán decided to confiscate it in order to restore it for another purpose.

Currently, this building is called Mercedes Sosa Theatre and with a capacity for 1700 people, it became the biggest of the province. This important architectural building was rebuilt but it still preserves its original façade. It was open on April 2nd 2014. Finally, its name was chosen to honor the great artist from Tucumán Mercedes Sosa.
