Ibatín Provincial Park and Open-Air Archaeological Museum

This is the site of the first founding of San Miguel de Tucumán, and the reserve was created in 1965 to preserve it.
Diego de Villarroel founded the city on May 31, 1565, in a place called Ibatín, where it remained until 1685.
The first archaeological excavations carried out at the site uncovered the foundations of the main square, the old town hall, and churches of the original city.
At the Ibatín Open-Air Archaeological Museum, you can appreciate the archaeological heritage recovered from the site and learn in depth about the history of the Founding City. Guided tours of the grounds are also available.
