National Route 40. Magical and legendary route.

In just over 30 kilometers, Tucumán leaves an indelible mark on the famous Route 40, which connects the country from north to south.

Route 40 contains numerous popular festivals such as Pachamama, which is distinguished by the color of its boxes and the melodies of its songs.

Standing out among the ten most memorable roads in the world for its landscapes, its extension and its variety of regions, National Route 40 crosses our province in just 37.1 kilometers allowing you to glimpse attractions that will leave you breathless.

“The 40” runs through the west of our country from end to end, bordering the Andes Mountain Range and in some sections following the route of the Inca Trail. This route allows you to experience the different climates of the country, its flora and fauna, learn about myths and legends and enjoy the typical foods of each region. It passes through archaeological remains of ancient pre-Columbian settlements, places of residence of native peoples and scenes of important events that forged the nation.

The attractions that make up Route 40 in Tucumán: 

- Popular Festivals: The identity of the valley is reflected in the colorful and fun festivities organized by the native communities, keeping alive the ancestral traditions that attract visitors from all over the country and the world.

- Artisan Route: It is one of the star products of the province and invites tourists to learn about the living culture of the valley uniquely and singularly, taking a tour of artisan workshops where they can purchase hand-made pieces with great diversity of raw materials.

- Wine Route: This is a visit to the wine-growing area of Tucumán, made up of wineries and vineyards framed in a dream landscape. There it is possible to delve into the production processes and taste high-altitude wines.

- Community Rural Tourism: Amaicha del Valle, Quilmes, Talapazo and El Pichao open their doors to tourists to allow them to experience moments of sharing their daily activities in contact with the community.

- Astronomical Observation: Just 8 kilometers from Amaicha del Valle we can come across the Ampimpa Astronomical Observatory. It offers different educational programs and both day and night visits, ideal for observing the stars in one of the best settings. In addition, accommodation, gastronomy and guided services are provided.

- Rural Tourism: On this route, there are different services linked to rural tourism through the production of Patero (foot-pressed) wine, cheese production and the harvesting of nuts and fruits to make artisanal sweets.

- Archaeological Tourism: This corridor has a great diversity of archaeological remains such as the ruins of Condorhuasi and the Sacred City of Quilmes, an enormous pre-Columbian archaeological complex that housed more than 15,000 inhabitants.
