Description:

This circuit is a cycle touring route that runs 59 km through the Department of Lules and the Municipality of Raco, Tucumán. It is a demanding route, especially suitable for trained cyclists, offering a gradient of 1899 m, with steep ascents and descents along the way.

  • Type of Trail: Provincial route of consolidated gravel, with a significant gradient and several river crossings.
  • State of Conservation: Regular. The road is 90% consolidated, but the signage is basic and in poor condition, with no tourist information.


Description of the Tour:


  1. The first 22 km section features a 650 m climb through a path shaded by vegetation, making it a challenge for cyclists.
  2. Then, there is a rapid descent of 400 m in 8 km until reaching the River Las Tablas culvert, an excellent point to rest by the river.
  3. Afterwards, the tour continues with a 36 km climb that offers spectacular scenery, ideal for cyclists with good physical condition.


Points of Interest and Tourist Attractions:

  • Cristo Rey Monastery: Located in El Siambón, it is one of the main attractions.
  • Lules Foundational Church: In front of 9 de Julio Square, in Lules, a good place to rest.
  • Viewpoint: From the top of the route you have a panoramic view of the city.
  • River Las Tablas: Crossing without a bridge, excellent point to rest.
  • Ríver Grande Campground: A private campground with services near the River Lules.

Accessibility and Recommendations:

  • Suitable time to visit: All year round, although caution should be taken during rainy seasons due to possible road deterioration and the risk of flooding in the rivers.
  • Difficulty: Difficult, due to the steep slope and ground conditions, requiring adequate hydration and a well-maintained bike to tacke steep climbs.

  • Picnic areas: Present in some points, such as in 9 de Julio Square and in some private campsites.
  • Rest areas: Various points along the route, especially at the intersection with the rivers.
  • Camping areas: Available, especially at Camping Río Grande and near some rivers.
  • Shelters: In key places such as El Siambón and the Potrero de Las Tablas School.


Recommendations:

  • The route is not recommended for very hot or rainy days. Constant hydration should be prioritized during the journey.
  • If the level of the cyclists is not known, it is recommended to have a support vehicle.
  • The signage is scarce and in poor condition, so it is advisable to bring maps or a GPS to guide yourself during the route.
