La Ciudacita (The Little City) Ruins
La Ciudacita (The Little City) Ruins
Located within the Aconquija National Park, in the south of the province, these ruins represent the southern end of the Inca Empire. The work impresses with the size of the surface, with one-meter-high pircas (stone walls) that reveal the ravages of the passage of time and the actions of different mammals on the site. The construction of the town responded to the need to establish relationships with the men of the plain because it allows an open view of the area where the sun rises. Due to their construction techniques, these ruins are directly related to the Campo Pucará Fortress located in the Las Estancias Valley (The Ranch Valley). These towns were vacated towards the middle of the 17th century, at the end of the second Calchaquí War. To visit them, you have to be accompanied by expert mountain guides.
