To declare the voice of the main representative of art and music in Tucumán, Mercedes Sosa, as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the Tucumán Tourism Board together with numerous State agencies and the Mercedes Sosa Foundation for Culture that preserve the legacy of the artist, planned the project called “Las Huellas de Mercedes Sosa” ("The Legacy of Mercedes Sosa"), a tribute to the singer that has no precedents and that seeks to highlight the sites that were important in Mercedes' life:

The 9 de Julio Park, close to her house...

The San Martín School, where she was trained...

The Hotel Metropol, where she spoke to the press and the Tucumán society after her exile...

The Manuel Belgrano Folklore Museum, where a room bears her name...

The Peña El Alto de la Lechuza, one of the oldest in the country, where her voice resonated...

The San Javier Hill, where she loved to see the landscape and where she also decided that her ashes would be eternal...

Through these footprints, today, Tucuman people and tourists can visit the places that marked each stage of Mercedes' life and obtain more information about each one.

If the main objective of this project is achieved, Mercedes will become—along with Carlos Gardel—the only voice declared a World Heritage.

“She has been one of the greatest singers in the history of Argentina and the world because she has been a symbol of Latin America for the planet. I have always admired her a lot; she has everything that a singer should have; she had an exceptional voice, one of those artists who open their voice, pronounce a phrase, and move you,” said Jairo, a singer who accompanied her countless times on stages around the world.

"She is here, at home. These actions are the ones that matter, the ones that will endure. For us, being in this place is very moving. She came here, she chose to rest and reflect on this viewpoint. The traces will remain. We will not, but she will endure forever. That is the most important thing," said her grandson, Agustín Matus, about the initiative that included the inauguration of the enhancement of the viewpoint in her honor in San Javier.
