Aiming to designate the voice of Tucumán's leading music figure, Mercedes Sosa, as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the Tucumán Tourism Board, together with other government agencies and the Mercedes Sosa Foundation for Culture, which protect the artist's legacy, planned the project "The Footprints of Mercedes Sosa," an unprecedented tribute to the singer that aims to highlight the sites that were significant in the life of the Black woman.

9 de Julio Park, near her home...

San Martín High School, where she studied...

The Metropol Hotel, where she spoke to the press and the Tucumán community after her exile...

The Manuel Belgrano Provincial Folk Museum, where a hall bears her name...

El Alto de la Lechuza Rock, one of the oldest in the country, where her deep and warm voice resonated...

San Javier Hill, with its landscapes she loved to see so much, and the corner of Tucumán where she decided her ashes would be eternal...

Through Through these traces, Tucumán residents and tourists alike can explore the places that marked each stage of her life and learn more about them.

If the ultimate goal of this project is reached, Mercedes Sosa's voice will become—along with Carlos Gardel's—the only voice designated as a World Heritage Site.

She was one of the greatest singers in the history of Argentina and the world because she symbolized Latin America for the planet. I have always greatly admired her; she possesses everything a singer should have; she had an exceptional vocal timbre, one of those artists who open their voice, pronounce a phrase, and move you," said Jairo, a singer who accompanied her on countless occasions on stages around the world. "She is here, in her home, present. These actions are what matter, what will endure. For us, being in this place is very moving. She came here, chose to rest and reflect at this viewpoint. These traces will remain. We won't, but she will endure forever. That is the most important thing," said her grandson, Agustín Matus, about the initiative, which included the inauguration of the viewpoint in her honor in San Javier.
