Tafí Viejo

Located only 12 kilometers from San Miguel de Tucumán, Tafí Viejo is known as the National Capital of Lemon for being the largest producer and exporter of citrus in the world. It is ideal for those looking to explore the last rail of the province. One of its main attractions is the Railway Museum, which showcases tools and parts of the railway culture that made this city great. The museum also features writing machines, the old ticket office of the State Railways, and the old siren that for 70 years signaled the start of each day.

Tafí Viejo also features interesting remnants of cultures that once inhabited the area. These can be seen at the Thaaui Archaeological Interpretation Center, located within the Atahualpa Yupanqui Municipal Inn, which offers spa and dining services to the public.

The market also features a space dedicated to culture. In the Luthería Salon “Maestro Fernando Ramón Silva,” a collection of musical instruments made by Louth Luthiers and Tucumán is displayed, showcasing their work with artisanal techniques. Additionally, the “Ernestina Salazar” visual hall provides a space for local artists to express themselves, helping strengthen the connection between the community and art.

Tafí Viejo is the location of the National Lemon Festival, which gathers thousands of people every September at the Villa Mitre Club. It is a significant event where Argentine folklore performers come together. In the past decade, a shift towards rock music has emerged at the festival, attracting Tafi Viejo fans to this genre, along with ska, reggae, and cumbia.
