Sacred City of Quilmes
Sacred City of Quilmes

By the year 800 A.D., the Quilmes inhabited the Calchaquí canyon and formed one of the most significant pre-Hispanic settlements of the Calchaquí peoples. They achieved great social and economic development, and by the seventeenth century, they had about 3,000 residents in the town and 10,000 in the surrounding areas. The reconstructions of the residential area, the fortress at the top, and two forts on the ridge are clearly visible.
