Sarmiento Society

Sarmiento Society was founded around 1880 by Normal School young graduated students. Its address is 65 Congreso Street. It has had a strong orientation to cultural and educational project since its beginning. It is considered the oldest cultural institution in the province. Many generations have been part of this society and it has received very intellectual people of XIX and XX century.

It was there where Juan B. Terán, the president of the society in those times, announced the intention to create a university. This project was implemented in 1914. That is how the National University of Tucumán was created. 

Nowadays, Sarmiento Society is a public library.
