Tucumán is the exuberance of its landscapes, but it is also the history eager to be explored in its archaeological sites. Among them, the Sacred City of Quilmes stands out, the last bastion of Aboriginal resistance against the Spanish advance that gave up in 1667, when 1,700 survivors of the Quilmes people were transported on foot to Buenos Aires, where 400 finally arrived. Upon reaching the hill, on its slope, you can see the reconstructions of the residential area, topped by a fortress located at the top and two forts on both sides, on the ledge.

In addition to the archaeological site, you can access an Interpretation Center that has four rooms in which, through different visual, auditory, and tactile resources, they will tell you various aspects of the life of the Quilmes people. In the first room, you will explore the origin of this community and its settlement in the Calchaquí valley. The second one recreates scenes of the activities of his daily life, his family organization, and some emblematic sites of the Fortress City. There you will see replicas of clothing, ornaments, weapons, farming tools, harvest utensils, and elements used in religious and funerary practices. The Center has an auditorium where an emotional audiovisual representation is projected that summarizes the history of the Quilmes from its origins to the exile of the community. In the last room, you can see the laboratory where archaeological pieces are still being studied by a team of specialized professionals.

To arrive by private vehicle you must take Provincial Route No. 307 from Amaicha del Valle, and travel approximately 15 kilometers until it joins National Route No. 40. From there, you must continue 3 more kilometers in a northerly direction. On the left, you must enter a dirt road that, 5 kilometers later, will allow you to access the site. If you do not have your vehicle, you can hire an excursion with a company from San Miguel de Tucumán or go by bus to Amaicha del Valle and from there hire the excursion.
